Outpatient Therapy (OPT) Team

Kat Brewer, MSW

Kat Brewer, MSW, is a compassionate and affirming therapist actively working toward licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She earned her Master of Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 2017 and has been proudly serving the Richmond community for the past seven years.

Kat has cultivated expertise in various areas but is particularly passionate about crisis response, LGBTQ+ advocacy, suicide first aid, domestic and sexual violence support, and mental health. What Kat loves most about being a therapist is the privilege of offering clients undivided attention and witnessing their growth and confidence blossom over time.

She approaches therapy with a strengths-based, trauma-informed perspective, fostering a non-judgmental and supportive environment where clients can explore their goals, concerns, and observations. Kat believes in the power of learning from everyone she interacts with, embracing the idea that "everyone you meet knows something you don’t."

Outside of her work, Kat enjoys baking (especially cupcakes), photography, thrifting, and spending quality time with her partner and pets.

Madeleine Viceconte, Resident in Counseling

I believe that change is possible through consistency and a willingness to adjust our perspectives on the world. Therapy serves a unique purpose for each individual, and I strive to tailor the treatment process to meet the specific needs of my clients.

I have experience working with individuals facing anxiety, depression, substance use, ADHD, trauma, and adjustment disorders. My passion lies in supporting those who feel outcast due to their mental health challenges, helping them discover a sense of belonging and purpose in their lives.

My therapeutic approach is systemic, compassion-focused, and narrative-based. I help clients understand that their struggles are not solely their burden to bear. By emphasizing advocacy, I stand by my clients in times of need and remind them of their inherent strengths. Adopting a collaborative and solution-focused perspective, I maintain a “not-knowing stance” to better understand their challenges from their unique worldview.

I frequently incorporate mindfulness techniques to highlight the importance of being present and engaged in life. Understanding that healing is not linear, I am dedicated to supporting my clients through every step of their journey with empathy and compassion.

Outside of work, I enjoy reading, spending time outdoors, and baking.
